Change happens when visionary leaders and dedicated communities come together with a single, life-saving purpose. Today, I am incredibly honored to present the Impact Award to Renaissance Academy, a school that is setting the standard for proactive mental health support in Virginia Beach.

A Leadership of Compassion

I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Principal Mr. Anthony Smith and Mr. Chip Larkin for their extraordinary leadership. Their commitment to the emotional and mental well-being of their students is what makes this partnership possible. Along with the entire staff at Renaissance Academy, they are proving that schools can be more than just places of learning—they can be sanctuaries of hope.

The Lifeline Wellness Initiative

Under the guidance of Mr. Smith and Mr. Larkin, Renaissance Academy is launching a vital new Wellness Program aimed at defeating depression and suicide among teens.

A Commitment to Student Wellness

Mental health is the foundation of academic and personal success. Under the visionary leadership of Principal Smith and his dedicated staff, Renaissance Academy is taking a proactive stand against the rising tide of teenage depression and suicide.

To support this mission, the school is officially launching a new Wellness Program centered around, Lifeline: Defeating Depression and Suicide Among Teens and Young Adults.

Bridging the Gap Through Giving

We believe that resources should never be out of reach for those who need them most. To ensure this program's success, we have coordinated a powerful partnership:

  • The Investment: Renaissance Academy is purchasing 75 copies of Lifeline to integrate directly into their student support curriculum.
  • The Donation: To amplify this effort, Project Your Life Matters Inc. is donating a significant portion of these materials. This grant ensures that the school can provide these life-saving resources to a larger cohort of students immediately.

Why "Lifeline" Matters

This isn't just about a book; it’s about starting a conversation. Lifeline provides teens with practical tools to navigate dark moments, identify warning signs, and understand that their struggle does not define their future. By bringing these books into the classroom, Renaissance Academy is creating a culture where it is safe to say, "I’m not okay," and knowing exactly where to find help.

A Shared Vision for Virginia Beach

The Impact Award presented today symbolizes a "Unified Front." It honors the educators who show up every day for our kids and the community partners who refuse to let another teen suffer in silence.

We are so proud to partner with Renaissance Academy. Together, we are proving that when we invest in the mental health of our students, we are investing in the future of our entire community.

Because at the end of the day, your life matters.
